After more than eight decades in its original waterfront home, Pentwater Yacht Club began an exciting new chapter in 2021. The aging clubhouse had served generations of members since 1935. However, deterioration of the wooden pilings supporting the structure over Pentwater Lake had reached the point where renovation was no longer practical.
Following extensive evaluation and planning, club members made the difficult decision to replace the historic building with a modern facility on the same cherished waterfront site.
Construction began in the fall of 2021, with Rockford Construction leading an ambitious project that continued through the harsh Michigan winter. The new clubhouse was built on steel pilings driven deep beneath the lakebed, providing a strong foundation designed to serve future generations.
The new building was thoughtfully designed to preserve the welcoming, cottage-like character of the original clubhouse while offering modern amenities, improved gathering spaces, and expanded outdoor seating. Its single-story design features a spacious two-level waterfront deck, providing members with spectacular views of Pentwater Lake and the channel leading to Lake Michigan.
Durability and reduced maintenance were important considerations throughout the project. The exterior incorporates weather-resistant AZEK siding and trim, while the decks feature TimberTech composite materials selected to withstand Michigan's demanding seasonal conditions.
On July 23, 2022, Pentwater Yacht Club celebrated the official ribbon-cutting of its new clubhouse, marking the successful completion of an extraordinary transformation in less than a year.
While the familiar old building is gone, the traditions it nurtured remain. The new clubhouse continues to be a gathering place for boating, dining, celebrations, and friendships, ensuring that the spirit of Pentwater Yacht Club will endure for generations to come.
