2019 Season - #27 (Oct 15)
Post Season …
Sat, Oct. 19 – Chili Cookoff. 5 PM; please call or text Amy (313.268.2086) by Oct. 16 if you want to enter your chili (need to know name of your chili). Prizes awarded for most traditional, most original … and a grand prize. Enjoy chili samples and Jim Hieftje’s “grilled dogs.” Also, final sale of beer and wine (cash or check only). Around 7 PM, we’ll need to recruit some able bodies to store the blue chairs in the dining room.
Thanks … our Blue Chair Lounge is now air conditioned thanks to a leadership gift from an anonymous member couple, matched by contributions from David Nobles, Margie/Jack Young, and Amy/Ron “LaBeeber.”
Club is seeking volunteer member who loves doing Excel pivot tables and macros to manipulate data from Jonas. Contact Chris Conroy at 630.606.8301 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Test Email Coming Soon -- As a money and time saving step, 2020 invoices will be attached to personalized emails that everyone will receive in January. Invoices will not be postal mailed as in the past. We are going to VERY SOON test the mass e-blast system we use for Signal Flags; what’s different is that this test email will include a “test” attachment that you should open to be sure you can (in January, the attachment emailed to you will be your invoice). Watch your inbox (and also your Spam/Junk/Promotions email folders) for this test email from PYC Secretary Barb Siok. If you successfully receive the test email and can open the test attachment, please let us know by clicking on the link in the body of the test email, and typing “yes.”
2020 Payment Deadlines -- Also, please make a note on your 2020 calendar that payment of next year’s dues and capital assessment must be received in Club’s PO Box by March 1, 2020. If you are late, you have 30 days to submit your dues/capital assessment payment -- PLUS a $50 per member late fee. Full amount must be received in PO Box by April 1. If NOT RECEIVED by April 1, your membership regrettably will be forfeited, and offered during April to someone on wait list. These deadlines are necessary so that Club’s 2020 membership is fixed by May 1, and yearbook and membership cards can be available when season begins later in May.
Reciprocals – Are you planning this winter to visit another yacht club that’s also a member of Yachting Clubs of America (YCA), and welcomes reciprocal guests as we do? CHECK WITH THAT CLUB PRIOR TO YOUR VISIT to see what credentials they require you to produce. Your 2019 PYC membership card is valid through April 2020, and showing this is usually adequate documentation.
But some clubs require either (a) that you also show a 2020 YCA reciprocal card, or (b) that the PYC send them in advance a letter that shows you to be in good standing. Either can be obtained from PYC Secretary Barb Siok. Email your request to Barb c/o email@example.com … include (a) your name, or names if more than one member, (b) your PYC member number(s), (c) name and postal address of yacht club you’re planning to visit, (d) name of that club’s official to whom letter should be
addressed, and (e) that person’s email address to where Barb can send your letter in good standing. Some clubs post such info on their Websites. Please allow at least one week for Barb to process your request as she’ll get a number of these.
BIG SALE in Ship Store -- 40 percent off on all merchandise (EXCLUDES canvas boat bags). All tees, including Wooden Boat Show and “Back from the Mac” shirts are reduced to $10 (short sleeve) and $15 (long sleeve). Ship Store is open when Club is open.
NOTE: A number of wood beams (8, 12 and 18-foot lengths) were recently removed from under the north dock. They were part of the dock’s earlier support structure. Perfect for your reclaimed wood building project. Contact Amy if interested (313.268.2086).
