PYC Wooden Boat Show Winners

The Third Annual Wooden Boat Show was held at the Pentwater Yacht Club on Saturday, August 28, 1999. Over 500 spectators enjoyed viewing thirty-three wooden boats on display.    Visitors voted on their favorite boat and the “People’s Choice Award” went to “Springtime” a 28’, 1935 Chris Craft with a 225 hp V-8 engine. The Owner was Mr. Shaw Walker of Muskegon, Michigan.  The“Best of Show” was selected by the registered exhibitors and the winner was “Kasha” a 30’, 1956 Chris Craft, Constellation cabin cruiser owned by Woody & Jan Wood, also of Muskegon.

The youngest boat restorer was Ryan Counterman, 15 years old, of Ada, Michigan who found an old Thompson boat in an alley and restored it to beautiful working condition.  There was a boat built in Norway and shown by Frode Maaseidvaag of Pentwater and a wooden sloop build in Spain in 1963 and shown by Rich DeCommer of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  A most unusual 1904 Launch Boat, “Duchess,” built in 1904 was displayed by Chip and Ann DeBoer of Kalamazoo.

The Wooden Boats circled past the Pentwater Yacht Club and marinas in Pentwater.  It was quite a site to see the mahogany beauties on parade. Homeport for twelve of the boats on display was Pentwater Lake.
