Dear Stephen---You may not remember who I am but I was so impressed that you took the time to send a note to Dave Roseman of PYC that I felt the need to do the same for you.
My husband Ray and I have owned a little house on Park Street since 1963 (across from Melinda Andrews) and have belonged to PYC since 1974 so of course I remember you and your sister Vicki and your parents as well. I remember you as a loner type young man and I loved how much sailing meant to you. We have a daughter Nikki (now 32). She married a young man from Scottville and they make their home in Grand Rapids. They just finished building their Pentwater house (on Carrol Street next to Sally Monfort Fortner's). We celebrated Christmas in their cottage this past December.
Nikki also loves sailing. She and her husband have had a lightning mooored at PYC for the past several years. As you can see our whole family continues it's love affair with Pentwater, the little lake and the big lake.
My husband Ray of 46 years passed away about a week ago and we had his funeral yesterday. Today I was having the kind of day one might expect in this situation. I opened my e-mail to read many heartfelt letters from friends and loved ones when I came your letter came on the screen. What a lovely ray of sunshine it was for me on this otherwise not so lovely day (which had been forwarded from Dave to another friend who sent it on to me).
During my husband's brief illness I received several notes from people who took the time to tell me wonderful stories of how my husband had touched their lives he ways he never knew. You have done that for me today and I wanted to say thank you.
I will be returning to Pentwater in May; alone for the very first time. It may be one of the hardest things I will ever have to do but Pentwater is where his heart was and mine is as well. If you ever do get back for a visit I hope you will stop at 36 Park Street and say hello.

Fair Winds to you, young man
Connie Dumas
